In this article, we cover:
Advantages of off-site rug cleaning
On-site fitted carpet cleaning focuses on tackling surface-level blemishes and soils. Off-site rug cleaning is a partial immersion process designed to eradicate embedded dirt, stains, allergens and odours.
It involves the use of industrial-strength cleaning equipment and detergents in a controlled environment, equipped with wash ponds, industrial beaters and drying areas.
Cleaning techniques and detergents are carefully selected to match the rug’s material.
Conventional carpet cleaning relies on vacuum suction, spot pre-treatments and standard machine cleaning to do the job.
Both processes are effective, and the service you choose depends on your requirements. At Chelsea Cleaning, we offer on- and off-site rug and carpet cleaning.

Specialised, industrial-strength carpet cleaning equipment at our factory.
Key advantages of having rugs deep-cleaned at our factory in Wynberg are:
- specialised, industrial equipment for superior results
- less disruption at your home or office
- ideal for larger or delicate rugs where on-site methods might be too harsh.
If you’re intent on removing dirt from below the surface, restoring the vibrant colours, and prolonging the life of your rugs, periodic professional deep cleaning is a good idea.
Improper cleaning at home can lead to fading, shrinkage or damage.
What our Cape Town rug cleaning involves
Off-site rug cleaning involves minimal disruption to your home or office. We collect your rugs at a time that’s convenient and take them back to our factory.
There, we thoroughly beat them and clean them in a wash pond. Once they’re completely dry, we package them to prevent any marking on the way back.

Two technicians feed a rolled-up rug into a centrifugal spinning machine.
We deliver your clean and dry rugs to your home or office at a convenient time. All you have to do is lay out the rugs – bright, clean and refreshed.
Steps in our off-site rug cleaning process
Our rug cleaning process is straightforward and effective. Over many years, we’ve perfected it to ensure the best possible results, while maintaining the rug’s structure and colours.
Step 1. Beat rugs to remove dust and debris

Beating a loose rug with an industrial-grade beating machine.
After collection, we beat the carpet with our Rugmaster machine to remove any loose debris, pet hair, sand or dust. The machine is designed to loosen ingrained dirt without stretching or pulling the rug.
We do this process by hand when rugs are delicate or too large for the machine.
Step 2. Expert spot cleaning of carpets

A technician cleans a shaggy rug with suds and a scrubbing brush.
Marks or stains are spot cleaned by hand with an appropriate stain remover. We use detergents that are safe for use on that particular rug material.
Step 3. Deep-immersion rug cleaning and rinsing

A technician sprays water onto a rug while two colleagues clean it using rubber brushes.
The rug is partially immersed in water, thoroughly cleaned by hand in a wash pond and rinsed to remove all soapy residue.
Step 4. Specialised centrifuge spinning for rugs and loose carpets

Loading a loose carpet into a centrifugal machine.
The clean rug is rolled up and spun dry in a specialised centrifuge machine, which removes up to 95% of moisture. The spin is controlled to avoid warping or stretching.
Step 5. Controlled rug drying and packaging

A row of loose rugs hanging over racks in a drying room.
Finally, we air-dry your rug on a rack in our drying room. Air-drying allows for the re-fluffing of fibres, and gives us a chance to inspect the rug to ensure all dirt and stains have been removed.
Once the rug is dry, it’s wrapped in protective packaging and delivered to your home or office.
Types of rugs we clean
We can clean a variety of loose rugs including Persian carpets and oriental rugs, kelims and durries, and flokatis, shaggys and thick woollen rugs.
